18th Annual St. Theresa Feast

Plans are underway for our 18th Annual Summer Festival. This year it will be held from July 23rd to the 27th. So tell your family and friends to save the dates and make plans to attend this fun filled celebration of our community. Some of your fellow parishioners are working hard to make sure everything is organized just right. They have already started to make some additions and changes that will make this year’s edition the best one ever. If you would like to get involved with the planning please feel free to stop by any of the feast committee meetings that will be posted in future editions of the parish bulletin.

Over the course of the last few years many of you have asked me and other members of The Feast Committee why we devote so much time & effort toward this event. We are asked why so many people volunteer to help during the feast. Simply put the answer to those questions is “we do it for God and our community” – for the St. Theresa, Pelham Bay & surrounding communities.

If I were to ask you what the first thing that comes to mind when I bring up the word “feast” you would probably say rides for the children, or games, or great food. And yes you would be correct - rides, games, & food are a large part of the event. However, the feast is a lot more than that as we provide an occasion where countless good things happen.

The St. Theresa Feast provides an opportunity for God to do His work.
Here are just a few of those “opportunities”:
It is an opportunity for families & friends to get together and spend some quality time as they walk through the streets and pass by our beautiful Church. It is a time to laugh, to reminisce and to have fun.
It is an opportunity for neighbors to realize that they are part of a great community and that community is important.
It is an opportunity to process through the streets of the area with the statue of St. Theresa – saying prayers in front of the homes of those who may not be able to get out.
It is an opportunity for us to open the streets to members of our local AHRC & Bold programs - and to give these individuals a few hours of enjoyment.
It is an opportunity for strangers to work side by side for the good of our community.
It is an opportunity for people to stop in Church and say a prayer for a loved one or for a particular cause or hardship. Or just an opportunity for someone to come back to Our Lord.
It is an opportunity for people to meet and start lifelong relationships. We have heard from many happily married or dating couples where the individuals met as a result of our feast.
It is an opportunity for someone to consider not having an abortion and have that child that is now the center of her life. There have been instances where expecting young women have stopped by The Right for Life booth at the Feast, talked to someone, or just picked up a brochure that helped them decide on not having an abortion. They have returned during the next Feast and introduced to us the best thing that ever happened to them – their beautiful child.
It is an opportunity for us to give out scholarships to some needy students.

As you can see we offer more than rides, games and good food. It is just a matter of recognizing and grabbing onto the “opportunity”.

THIS YEAR’S THEME – As you know, each year since the inception of the feast we have had a catchphrase that is the underlying theme of that years feast. That theme is incorporated in many of the different facets of the feast & religious observances. This year we have chosen as our theme “Come Home To Jesus”. What better time than now to stop by Church and say a prayer, light a candle, or attend a Mass. What better time than now to do a good deed for someone in need. What better time than now to feel better about yourself. What better time than now to “Come Home To Jesus”.

ADVANCE RIDE TICKETS - We offer advance ride tickets at a discount. You are able to save lots of money and use your credit card by buying these tickets before July 22nd. They are available now on this web-site. Just click the link at the top of this page.

RAFFLE – As part of our feast we will once again hold our Grand Raffle. The grand prize will be a 2014 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 (the newest and already one of the bestselling Mercedes models) or $30,000. The 2nd prize will be $1,000 and the 3rd prize will be $500. There will only be 1000 tickets sold at a cost of $100 each. Once gain we ask for your help. This raffle is very important to the financial state of our parish. If you cannot buy them yourself please make every effort to network them among friends, relatives or co-workers. If your ticket stubs are in before the end of June you qualify for the early-bird drawing. The winner of the early-bird will receive $300.00 and 3 additional free tickets for the Grand Raffle. Tickets are available on-line now. Just click on the link at the top of this page.

CORPORATE SPONSORS – There is a program associated with our feast where businesses can get involved and help as well. It’s called our Corporate Sponsor Program. VOLUNTEERS – Our Feast would not be possible without the efforts of hundreds of parishioners that volunteer & help each year. As our feast continues to grow and as we try to initiate new features for our parishioners we are in need for more & more volunteers. If you volunteered in the past we thank you for your endeavors and hope that you will be able to help us this year. If you have not helped in the past please “give us a try”. Whatever amount of time you can give will be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in helping please call the rectory at 718-892-1900 or e-mail me at louieapples@aol.com

LOCAL RESIDENTS – We ask all of our parishioners to join us and say thank-you to those individuals that own homes or live within the immediate area of our feast. We realize that at times during the week of our feast those local residents are inconvenienced. We thank them for their understanding & patience. Many of them have told us that these inconveniences are greatly outweighed by the good that our feast does for our parish & community. If there is a condition that you feel we can address please call the rectory at 718-892-1900 - a member of the Feast Committee will contact you.
